After working professionally with various kinds of metal for a number of years I have come to realize that I am attracted to small-scale metal objects. I enjoy the intimacy of something that can fit in my pocket. I make wearable jewellery but I prefer to construct various small metal objects, like silver forks set with stone or handles for straight razor shaving blades. I tend to think of myself as a metal-smith more so than a jeweller and a craftsman more so than an artist.
The style I tend to be drawn to is more of a "European" style, which is often clean, geometric and simple looking but can be challenging to achieve. Usually being more interested in the technical challenge of constructing a piece than the concept behind it, my goal is always to achieve the highest level of craftsmanship my skills will allow.
I have completed a three-year diploma from Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson British Columbia, majoring in Jewellery and Small Object Design and I am currently in my final year of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Alberta College of Art + Design in Calgary Alberta, majoring in Jewellery and Metals.
